Did you know that most people check their phones between 50 and 100 times a day? I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a little bit addicted to my phone (I sleep with it, and it’s the first thing I reach for when I wake up), but it turns out that we are at our most creative when we’re bored. When we don’t have our phones to distract us. That’s why creative breakthroughs often happen when you’re doing something mundane, like washing the dishes or taking a shower.
This very funny video, inspired by a New York Public radio show which asked thousands of its listeners to stop checking their phones and see where their minds took them, makes the case for putting our phones down, and embracing purposeful boredom. Definitely a fun (and motivating!) watch.
How often do you check your phone? What’s the longest phone hiatus that you’ve ever taken, and did you feel more creative as a result?
